Softball evolved from baseball and originated in Chicago in the 1880s. In 1933, it was officially named "softball". In 1959, women's softball was officially listed as a sport in China's National Games. In 1996, women's softball was officially listed as an Olympic sport.
The International Softball Federation, the highest organization of softball, was established in September 1952. It has 129 members and is headquartered in Oklahoma, USA. The major events of the International Softball Federation include: Olympic softball games, World Softball Championships, World Youth Softball Championships and softball championships on all continents.
